Surgical technologists are key members of the healthcare field, working in teams to assist with life-saving procedures. They set up surgical instruments and provide infection control before surgery. During surgery they pass instruments and supplies to surgeons and assist by holding retractors, cutting sutures and helping apply dressings.
As the elderly population increases, there is a greater demand for medical personnel to perform surgical procedures. As a result, employment opportunites in surgical technology are expected to grow much faster than average.
The Surgical Technology Program allows students to develop the skills and hands-on training necessary to become an integral part of the operating room team.
